Members of the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition may apply as a volunteer with the following committees. These committees do a variety of important work of the coalition between meetings of its Board of Directors.

Advocacy

Is responsible for coordinating advocacy work of the organization to multiple levels of government as well as articulating our coalition’s position on different matters of advocacy. This committee works closely with the Communications Committee and Local Committees.

Communications

Is responsible for coordination of communications, this website, our eNewsletter, Social Media, radio PSAs, letter writing campaigns to varying levels of government, and local media, as well as print promotion of the organization.

Local Committees

These committees do outreach for the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition and cycling more broadly in their communities, through events like local group rides, bike valets, 529 Garage sign-up events, or tabling at events. These committees also assist the board and other committees in tracking municipal or regional projects in their area that impact cycling and vulnerable road users.

Different tasks may be assigned to these committees by the Board of Directors or by the other committees ie: the Communications Committee may seek help with postering and outreach.

Local Committees exist for the following

• Oceanside (Parksville, Qualicum, and Nanoose)

• Nanaimo-Lantzville

• Cedar-Ladysmith

• Gabriola

Development

Is responsible for building financial capacity for the organization, be it through memberships, donations, sponsorship or grants. We need money to move our mission forward!

Finance

Responsible for the budget, and financial reporting of the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition. They recommend to the board how we spend what money we bring in.

Programming, Education, and Initiatives

Responsible for developing local programming and initiatives, and improving education in the areas we serve. It identifies where gaps are in these areas, and who might we collaborate with ie: working with GoByBike, local school districts, etc.

Internal Policy

Responsible for organizational policy and procedure. How we do what we do. This is also the committee that would draft changes to our constitution or bylaws.

Nominations Committee

Responsible for finding future nominees for the board of directors with skills we need!

Getting Involved

While all of the above committees are open to volunteers who are interested in joining them, some committees may have limited capacity for volunteers. Those interested in joining a committee can fill in the volunteer form.

Each committee has a Google Group that approved committee members will be added to.
