Welcome to Cycle in Nanaimo

The Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition is pleased to launch it’s new Cycle in Nanaimo website. Taking the torch in cycling advocacy from the defunct Greater Nanaimo Cycling Coalition, we seek to continue and expand its important work in advocating for the interests of cyclists and vulnerable road users in the City of Nanaimo, Regional District of Nanaimo, and Cowichan Valley Regional District north of Duncan.

We seek to provide programs and initiatives not only for this advocacy work, but also for educational purposes with forums, classes, workshops and seminars for members and the public. These will focus on safety, and the repair and maintenance of bicycles.

Our programs and initiatives will also work to conserve the environment, and improve the health of people within the region we serve. We will work to facilitate communication between cyclists, motorists, pedestrians, vulnerable road users, bicycle retailers, non-political transportation companies and planners, real estate developers, and other non-political groups dealing with cyclists by engaging these groups directly, and presenting the interests of these various groups to each other.

Our work will also involve collecting and developing best cycling practices, best design practices for cycling infrastructure and best practices for people dealing with cyclists and making this information available to the public.

We look forward to organizing fun casual group rides as well as official events like GoByBike Week(s) to promote the use of bicycles as environmentally beneficial and healthy modes of transit.

We intend to seek charitable status in the near future to work to improve public cycling facilities.

If you are interested in supporting this work, please volunteer, join our board, and become a member today!

We look forward to serving our supporters.
