Join a committee today!

On July 13th, the newly elected Board of Directors of the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition met for their first board meeting. A key agenda items at this meeting was the striking of committees for different areas of focus for the coalition! These committees are open to volunteers from the membership, and are a great way to get involved!

The following committees were struck:

Advocacy

Is responsible for coordinating advocacy work of the organization to multiple levels of government as well as articulating our coalitions position on different matters of advocacy. This committee works closely with the Communications Committee and Local Committees.

This committee currently consists of directors Phil Hall, Peter Stary, Frank Seier, and Calen May-Tobin.

Communications

Is responsible for coordination of communications, this website, our eNewsletter, Social Media, radio PSAs, letter writing campaigns to varying levels of government, and local media, as well as print promotion of the organization.

This committee currently consists of directors Charlotte Cavalié and Jesse Woodward.

Local Committees

Photo: Group rides are one of many things that can be organized by a Local Committee.

These committees do outreach for the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition and cycling more broadly in their communities, through events like local group rides, bike valets, 529 Garage sign-up events, or tabling at events events. These committees also assist the board and other committees in tracking municipal or regional projects in their area that impact cycling and vulnerable road users.

Different tasks may be assigned to these committees by the Board of Directors or by the other committees ie: the Communications Committee may seek help with postering and outreach.

Oceanside (Parksville, Qualicum, and Nanoose)

This committee currently consists of directors Peter Stary and Danny Hall.

Nanaimo-Lantzville

This committee currently consists of directors Cait Lepla and Rebecca Anthony.

Cedar-Ladysmith

This committee currently consists of director Jesse Woodward.

Gabriola

This committee currently consists of director Rebecca Anthony.

Development

Is responsible for building financial capacity for the organization, be it through memberships, donations, sponsorship or grants. We need money to move our mission forward!

This committee currently consists of directors Rebecca Anthony, Jesse Woodward, Charlotte Cavalie, and Calen May-Tobin.

Finance

Responsible for the budget, and financial reporting of the Nanaimo Area Cycling Coalition. The recommend to the board how we spend what money we bring in.

This committee currently consists of directors Joel Canfield, Jesse Woodward, Calen May-Tobin, Phil Hall, and Alex Stanciu.

Programming, Education, and Initiatives

Responsible for developing local programming and initiatives, and improving education in the areas we serve. It identifies where gaps are in these areas, and who might we collaborate with ie: working with GoByBike, local school districts, etc.

This committee currently consists of directors Rebecca Anthony, Jesse Woodward, Danny Hall, Cait Lepla, and Joel Canfield.

Internal Policy

Responsible for organizational policy and procedure. How we do what we do. This is also the committee that would draft changes to our constitution or bylaws.

This committee currently consists of directors Frank Seier, Phil Hall, and Jesse Woodward.

Nominaitons Committee

Responsible for finding future nominees for the board of directors with skills we need!

This committee currently consists of directors Phil Hall, and Jesse Woodward.

Getting Involved

While all of the above committees are open to volunteers who are interested in joining them, some committees may have limited capacity for volunteers. Those interested in joining a committee can fill in the volunteer form.

Each committee has a Google Group that approved committee members will be added to.
